Obituary of Joseph Eugene Brewer

Joseph Eugene Brewer, 89, of Louisville, KY. passed away on February 4, 2018 after a period of declining health. He was born on September 16, 1928 to Joseph and Wanda Brewer. His childhood years were spent in Ottumwa, Iowa.  He proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1946-1948. His adventurous spirit took him to Ketchikan, Alaska where he worked as a fisherman for several years. During this time he met and married Audrey. They later settled in Indiana where Joseph worked in the meat packing industry for more than 40 years. Their union resulted in seven children: Ryan (Laura), Janet, Lynne, Cathy (Tim), Doug (Pamela), Kevin and Max (Gerri).

Joseph always had the gift of hospitality and happily welcomed any visitors to his home.  He and Audrey had a very lively household in Utica with 7 kids, a menagerie of pets and a small farm with many projects. After his divorce from Audrey, he later married Deborah who predeceased him. Joseph was a collector of treasures from flea markets and loved to gamble.  Joseph is survived by his seven children, stepchildren Dominic Cravens and Bridget Elder, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Russell (Mary Pat) and sister, Carolyn.

A visitation to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, February 13 from 2 – 8 PM at Legacy Funeral Center, Jeffersonville, IN.  A Graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY.   The Brewer family wishes to thank Lauren and her staff at Campbell’s Private Care Home for the wonderful and loving care provided to Joseph.
