Obituary of Betty Lee Spivey Mullins

It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Lee Spivey Mullins announces that she passed away suddenly at her home on March 2, 2018 at the age of 82 years old.  Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street in Jeffersonville, IN, with burial to follow in Mount Washington Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM and on Thursday after 9 AM at the funeral home. 

Betty was born on September 20, 1935 in Spencer County, KY,to the late James Aaron Spivey and Lillian Viola (Holloway) Spivey.  She lived in various locations in Kentucky including Taylorsville, Mt. Washington and Louisville.  In the early 1980’s she relocated to Indianapolis for awhile before returning to Kentucky in 1985.  For the past 32 years, she has lived in Jeffersonville, IN. 

At the age of 52, she became an LPN and was employed at Clark Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1998.

She loved her family very much.  To say she loved cats is an understatement.  She was known to feed hungry stray cats, sometimes adopting them into her home.  She was an avid collector of cookbooks which she enjoyed reading.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and always won when they played Trivial Pursuit.  She was a regular patron of Derby Dinner Playhouse where she found many cherished friendships.  She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, especially enjoying her trip to Hawaii for her 80th birthday.  Her favorite pastime was to watch Turner Classic Movies on television.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Vernon Sweazy; and her grandson, Jon Collin Sweazy.

She is survived by her four children, Kevin Sweazy; Katrina Sweazy McGraw; Mark Sweazy; Blaine Patrick Sweazy (Gladys); thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and her two cats, Bootsy and Baby.
