Mary Ann Metzler, 84, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 surrounded by her family. Legacy Funeral Center has been entrusted with her care.

Mary was born on June 10, 1933 to the late Emil and Lydia (Haire) Kamp. Throughout her younger years, Mary was a cheerleader, a majorette and took part in her church choir. She went to state finals and won awards for her singing talent. Mary was married to Richard Metzler on December 8, 1950. The love and care they shared over the 67 years of marriage is something to be cherished. She became both a leader and trainer in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Her compassionate personality also led her to be little league baseball coach and a caregiver. Mary also enjoyed taking part in different community projects. Mary’s famous sayings were, “Life is great if you don’t weaken, and I’m not going to weaken,” as well as “One day at a time.” They were her motto, and she lived true to them.

Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her siblings, Betty (Kamp) Austby, Shirley (Kamp) Young, and Gordy Kamp.

Mary is survived by her husband, Richard Metzler; children, Gail Orr (John), George Metzler (Lisa), Debbie Frey (Don), Richard M. Metzler (Terri), Shelia Chandler (Brad), and Steve Metzler. She loved and savored the times she spent with her 21 grandchildren, many great and great, great grandchildren. Mary was loved and will be missed by many. She was a gift from God to all of us a wonder wife and mother who taught us all strength, endurance, inspiration and great love. We rejoice and celebrate her life she was a amazing person who always had a friendly smile for anyone and everyone she met.
