Ruth Eleanor Holbrook (Smith), 83, Jeffersonville, departed this earth for her heavenly home on July 31, 2018. She was born August 2, 1934 to Edgar and Verna Smith (Blevins) in Ashland, Kentucky. Ruth graduated from Morehead College with a degree in education. There she met her husband Bill playing ping pong. They were married in 1960, and after teaching a few years in Kentucky and Ohio they moved to Jeffersonville. Ruth taught second grade for 19 years at Pleasant Ridge Elementary, retiring in 1989.

She is survived by her devoted husband William Holbrook (Bill), caring daughter Jo Ellen Blankenbeker and her husband David; loyal sister Dorothy Cameron; and beloved grandchildren Zachary and Amelia.

She will be remembered and cherished by her family and all those children she impacted in her teaching career.

The funeral will be held on Monday August 6th at 11:00 AM at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main St. in Jeffersonville with visitation Sunday August 5th, 3-6 PM and Monday, August 6th from 9 -11 AM, at the funeral center.
