Obituary of Charles E. Krause

Charles E. Krause

94, of Jeffersonville

The Lord welcomed home our most beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Charles Krause, AKA "Uncle Bud" on February 1, 2019.

The eldest of 5 children born to John and Helen Krause, Charles arrived January 31, 1925 in Jeffersonville, IN. He was preceded in death by 4 of his siblings, Kenneth Krause, Helen Peel, Mary White and Donald Krause (Mary). As a lifelong resident of Jeffersonville, Charles developed a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, gardening, chopping wood, and mowing grass, all things he did until his last days in his Oak Park home of 62 years.

Never having met a stranger, Charles was always eager to engage everyone within earshot in a lively conversation.  This magnetism attracted him to the love of his life and wife of 65 years, the deceased Joyce Ferree Cooper Krause. Together they raised three children, Steven Krause of Jeffersonville, Connie Miller (Charles) of Orlando FL, and Janet Lykins (Harold) of Greensboro, GA. Along with them, Charles is survived by 2 grandchildren, Sean Thatcher, Kelli Schad (Devon); 5 great-grandchildren, Connor Thatcher, Hannah Thatcher, Parker Thatcher, Eliana Schad, Ayla Schad; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles lived a very full and active life.  Enduring through the 1937 flood at a young age, he never left Jeffersonville.  He spent his working years at Jeff Boat and then over 35 years at Variety Sheet Metal in Louisville, having recently been awarded his 75 Year Pin from the Local

89 Sheet Metal Union. He loved attending JHS ballgames and also cheering on IU, UL, and UK. Often referred to as being "tough as nails", Charles survived a 20ft fall from a fruit tree that shattered his foot, hip, and hand.

A devout Christian man, Charles practiced his faith.  Over the years, he was an active member of Park Place United Methodist Church.  He served 30 years as a dedicated volunteer at Clark Memorial Hospital and over 20 years at the Louisville Ronald McDonald House. Charles was the "salt of the earth".  He was a remarkable person who lived a long and fulfilling life that will be cherished by many, as witnessed by his 90thbirthday party having well over 100 of his closest friends and family in attendance.

A Celebration of Charles' Life will be held at 1PM on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Legacy Funeral Center, 921Main Street in Jeffersonville, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM and from 12-1PM on Saturday prior to the service.

Memorial contributions and expressions of sympathy can be made to Adaptive Hospice of Southern Indiana or Cook Memorial United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville.  Envelopes for both will be available at the funeral home.
